The developer previously teased a pirate theme for their eighth season of DLC, but it seems this was only a hint of the characters being added – with a new trailer showcasing ninjas and ice monkeys tussling over treasure. Also included this season is the new Pirate Cannon weapon, which allows you to damage enemy locations and structures by launching a cannonball, or yourself.
An active volcano has unearthed two new locations in Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon, which also adds hazardous lava and volcanic vents that can boost you into the air.
A new gameplay mode has been added in the form of Party Assist, which allows players to complete daily or weekly challenges along with your party members. Items have been removed too, including the Sneaky Snowman, Chiller Grenade, the recent X-4 Stormwing plane, Shopping Cart and All Terrain Kart.
The season also brings back limited time modes in 50 versus 50 and Close Encounters, where players fight in close quarters with shotguns and jetpacks. Fortnite is also getting a similar ping system to Apex Legends, with world markers now upgraded so you can warn fellow players of nearby dangers and alert them to weapons.
The season eight battle pass also boasts 100 new cosmetic items to unlock as you level up, which is available now for 950 V-Bucks (around £7.99). The new battle pass is free for players who completed last season’s 13 challenges, with Blackheart and Hybrid outfits available upon purchase.
