It’s been a while since 64 games were on the shelves, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still find new data about the games, courtesy of some digging by notable names in the games industry.
20 years ago, the Nintendo 64 was one of the most popular consoles on the market, and thanks to new tweets by NPD Video Game Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella, we can see some of the best selling titles for the console.
Revealing the most popular games on different platforms (including PlayStation, GameBoy Colour, Dreamcast and more), Piscatella’s data reveals some interesting patterns.
“Not a lot of surprises on the N64 list, dominated by major 1st party franchises that are even more successful today,” Piscatella writes. “And of course, the legendary Goldeneye 007.”
The list reveals that Super Mario 64 was the best selling title for the platform, and Goldeneye 007 came in second. Unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 64 followed up on this, followed by another Nintendo first-party game in The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

However, the rumour posted over on the site noted that there could be another Nintendo Direct this month – a more general one – where we could see the announcement of the console, too.
There is no specific date attached to the rumoured Direct, though, so don’t expect any news immediately.
