Tweeting unsolicited early this morning, Criterion Games said it is in discussions with Microsoft about making the game playable on Xbox One.

At E3 2015, Microsoft announced that some 100 Xbox 360 games would be playable on Xbox One by the holiday, and more coming after that. Eighteen games were mentioned at the Los Angeles event, including Mass Effect, Viva Piñata and Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. Fallout 3 also will be backward compatible; Bethesda Softworks announced those who get Fallout 4 on Xbox One also get a free copy of its predecessor.

Games must be specifically enabled for backward compatibility on Xbox One; the feature doesn’t simply make all Xbox 360 discs playable on Xbox One. The console will still need to play a physical copy of the disc or otherwise purchase the game on Xbox Live’s digital marketplace. In either case, the user must download a copy of the game for Xbox One to that console’s hard drive. All features, such as online multiplayer, will work on the new hardware.
