Sony’s PSVR has finally launched in the UK, but you may be surprised how many games, and free demos, are also out today.
There’s an extra surprise in store for anyone that’s picked up a PlayStation VR headset today: finding out what games are available for it.
Incredibly, nobody knew exactly what was going to be released today until everything went live on PSN this morning. The biggest name games were well known, and are also available at retail, but there also a lot of other download-only indie titles.
There’s also VR options in this week’s Rise Of The Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration and 100ft Robot Golf, the superb Rez Infinite, and the previously released Bound and Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X.
On top of that there’s also a number of free demos. You get a demo disc with the headset itself but controversially the European version features less games than the US equivalent. But Sony has made up for this by adding something called ‘PS VR Demo’ to PSN today, which includes demos for Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, Here They Lie, Harmonix Music VR, Job Simulator, Rez Infinite, Thumper, and Allumette.
There’s also the free Kitchen demo for Capcom, which was an early VR test before they started work on Resident Evil 7. Also completely free is The Playroom VR, a VR animation from the director of Madagascar called Invasion! and Littlstar VR Cinema – which we haven’t had a chance to use yet.
In total there are 28 paid-for PlayStation VR compatible games released this week, which is highly impressive for any new hardware launch. Especially as a lot of them are pretty good.
